Formats
Each volume is published in three forms so you can choose between fidelity and file size.
- TIFF master set
- One uncompressed TIFF image per page, captured at high resolution with a colour reference target. The master set of a single volume commonly runs to several gigabytes and is packaged as numbered bundles.
- Full-resolution PDF
- All pages combined into one PDF with lossless image compression. Suitable for printing and close reading of plates and marginalia.
- Reduced PDF
- A smaller PDF with downsampled images, intended for reading on screen and on mobile devices.
Naming
Files follow the pattern author-shorttitle-year_part.ext, for example hooke-micrographia-1665_01.tif. Bundles of a master set are numbered in page order.
Checksums
Every bundle has a matching .sha256 file. After downloading, compare the checksum before unpacking; see verifying files.
